About this course

$50 deposit due upon booking. Full course fee: $395, the remaining $345 will be paid on the first day. The classes take place once a week on either Saturday afternoon or Sunday afternoon. The class day will be communicated a week before the course starts. Next Step on Wheel-throwing is designed for those individuals who are already acclimated with wheel throwing but want to further their skills and take it to the next level. During the 6-week course, we will learn throwing a slightly larger amount of clay and being more confident in making different shapes and forms. Each session includes one hour of class and one hour of self-practice. Week 1: Form & Volume – Explore how to throw 2-3 pounds of clay, how to refine forms and create balanced, well-proportioned pottery by focusing on volume, wall thickness, and intentional shaping on the wheel. Week 2: Hump Throwing – Learn the technique of throwing multiple small pieces from a single large mound of clay, ideal for efficiently making bowls, cups, and other forms. Week 3: Lidded Vessels – Develop precision and craftsmanship by creating lidded containers, mastering how to fit lids seamlessly onto thrown bases. Week 4: Trimming & Shape – Refine your pieces through trimming techniques that enhance their form, foot structure, lid structure, and overall aesthetic. Week 5: Surface Texture Technique - Sgraffito – Experiment with sgraffito, a decorative technique involving carving through a contrasting slip layer to reveal intricate patterns and designs. Week 6: Underglaze & Glaze – Apply finishing touches by exploring underglaze painting techniques and glazing methods to enhance the final look of your pottery. No prior experience necessary. Small class sizes ensure personalized guidance. The online sign-up secures a spot for the 6-week course. the full cost for the course is $395. Upon starting, the remaining balance will be charged.

Cancellation Policy

Full refund if cancelled 7 days prior to the first day of the 6-week course. If you happen to miss a class during the 6-week course, you can make it up by joining one of the weekly adult pottery group classes.
